As I approached the southwest toes of Kentucky I could see a very tall obleisk in the distance. As I approached the village of Fairview, Kentucky I learned that this is the birthplace of Jefferson Davis, the first, last and only president of the Confederated States of America. It is quite a tribute to a man who is generally regarded as a rascal, a racist and a rebel. The monument stands 350 ft. The area is also home to a settlement of Team Mennonites.
